The Loudoun Math and IT Academy Academy’s governing board has requested a three-month freeze in the application process for the proposed charter school.
In a letter written by Ali Gokce, president of the Loudoun Math and IT Academy Funding Board, to the Eric Hornberger, chairman of the Loudoun County School Board, the LMITA board requested more time to improve its application.
“In an effort to strengthen and make our application the best it can be, and to enable us to address the issues raised by the Select Committee, we believe this additional three months will be extremely helpful…,” Gokce said in the letter.
Gocke also stated that, if granted the extra time, the Founding Board will seek to diversify their board, including adding more Loudoun residents, better detail the curriculum, obtain more fundraising pledges and review the budget, transportation and technology equipment requests in the application.
The Academy has a targeted open date of fall 2014, modified at the suggestion of the Loudoun County School Board.
The school board will evaluate the request at its next meeting on Jan. 22.
